Please read the following information below to become more familiar with the mission organization that I work with:
Youth With A Mission is an international movement of Christians working to help make a difference in a needy world. Founded in 1960, it is now one of the largest interdenominational Christian ministries, with 11,000 volunteer staff based in nearly 750 locations in over 130 countries. In many of our locations, people from a wide variety of nations serve side by side.
In every case, our passion is to know God and to make Him known. Our many ministries fit into three main categories: evangelism, training and mercy ministry. We send out over 25,000 short term missionaries each year.
Discipleship Training Schools (DTS) aim to prepare messengers of the gospel, helping students to know God in depth. The goal is to form Christian character and establish Biblical relationships while developing a daily walk with God. This intensive Christian training course begins with a 12 week classroom phase followed by an 8-12 week outreach.
The DTS is designed to encourage students to develop in personal character, to cultivate a living relationship with God, and to identify their unique individual gifts and callings in God. Cross-cultural exposure and global awareness are special emphases throughout these courses, preparing the students to reach current and future generations and answer the call to "Go into all the world and make disciples of all nations" Matthew 28:19.
The school includes distinct sessions taught by world-renowned speakers as well as emerging YWAM leaders. It includes topics such as:
Outreach doesn't just happen during the overseas field assignment. It begins the moment you step onto the YWAM base. We give lots of ways for students to put their faith into action around our island, long before we board planes for "outreach." The contribution each student brings will help shape the school itself. DTS teams regularly participate in community service and evangelism outreaches in the local area. Outreach ministries often include evangelism, teaching English, dramas and community service.
DTS students' learning experience goes way beyond the classroom. Much of our cross-cultural learning comes from living "in community" with students and staff from many nations. We regularly eat together, pray and worship together, and get together for various social and educational activities. Each student also serves the community through ten hours a week of essential campus work (Grounds keeping, maintenance, kitchen, hospitality, office support, etc.).
The DTS has a regular weekly schedule of corporate teaching sessions, but there will also be times when the class is split into smaller groupings according to age, gender, interests, calling or needs. We purposely hold the structure and form lightly because we want God to be able to do something new and innovative with us. We want this school to be integrated, interactive and dynamic. We will offer optional sessions on a variety of topics, and we expect that there will be many student-initiated activities. There is plenty of free time for students to enjoy the local area. We plan to have lots of fun together and make many lifetime friendships.
